The ten-thousand-hour research reminds us that "the closer psychologists look at the careers of the gifted, the smaller the role innate talent seems to play and the bigger the role preparation seems to play."
We do not prepare so that everything can go according to plan. We should prepare with the expectation that things will not go according to the way we originally believed. A commitment to excellent preparation gives us options even in the moments life does not offer any.
